Triathlon Safety

The event may be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions including

  • Lightning
  • Severe winds
  • Average water temperature under 11℃

If the water temperature is under 15℃ on the day of the event then wetsuits will be mandatory. We have wetsuits for hire if you do not have your own. Our hire wetsuits are generic, non-swimming specific.

The event organiser holds the right to cancel the event at any point due to weather.

Swimming

  • Tow floats are not required

  • Wetsuits are prohibited if the water temperature is above 25℃

Cycling

  • This is an open road event therefore traffic laws must be obeyed during the cycle section.

Arrival, Car Park, Registration & Waiver

All competitors are asked to park in the main car park directly behind the building. All participants must report to and register with reception. Please have a waiver signed before you arrive, you will not be able to compete without a valid signed waiver.  Link to waiver below.  https://waiver2.roller.app/WestCountryWaterPark/home
You will be given a race pack upon registration which will contain your race number, timing chip and an orange ankle strap. Please put the chip onto the strap and place it on whichever ankle you feel more comfortable, please put your timing chip above any wetsuit or tri suit.

Transition Zone

The transition zone will be set up on the South East corner of the lake near to the road entrance. This is a short walk on concrete and grass so you may want to wear flip-flops or trainers that you leave at the entrance to the lake to collect at the end of the race. Please be at this point at least 20 minutes before your estimated start time.

Swim

The swim will take part in our lake. There will be two separate buoy circles for the different disciplines, this will be explained in the pre-event briefing. Wait to be invited into the water by the start marshal and keep clear from any swimmers already in the water. Please swim clockwise in the lake.

Bike

You must put on and secure your helmet before taking your bike from the rack. Only remove your helmet after you have docked your bike at the transition zone. Once ready, make your way with your bike out of transition, mounting and dismounting your bike at the end of the green mat.

The bike routes are below with Super Sprint (Left) and Sprint (Right).

Marshalls will be positioned on every turning point along the route and will be wearing high-vis.

The ride uses public roads, and you must follow the rules of the road, riding respectfully and safely in relation to other road users. The road surface is generally good but watch out for holes and uneven surfaces. As a rural area, key hazards are horses and farm vehicles. Competitors must follow the rules of the road at all times. Any cyclist who rides in an unsafe manner will be disqualified.

No litter must be left at any point of the course. Any competitor seen to be littering will be disqualified and the environment agency may be notified.

Run

Leaving transition you will be directed to the start of the running track by a marshall. The run is along a pathed running track. If you are participating in the sprint triathlon it is imperative that you count your laps, there will be a wristband station at the beginning of the track, every time you complete a lap you may grab a wristband. To finish the race sprint triathletes need to collect three wristbands
